Garden Gnome
Garden Gnome is a delightful mini-game inspired by centuries-old folklore surrounding the iconic clay gnomes that once protected gardens across Europe. Created as a Google Doodle for Germany’s Garden Day, the game blends history, charm, and simple mechanics. Players first learn how gnomes are crafted, then use them to decorate a bright, blooming digital garden.
A Little History
- Gnome figures first appeared in 13th-century Anatolia and later resurfaced in 16th-century Italy.
- The familiar garden gnome we know today—complete with a pointy hat and long beard—originated in 19th-century Germany, particularly in Thuringia, where artisans hand-crafted them from clay.
- According to local folklore, these quirky guardians were believed to protect gardens and bring good luck to homes.
Send Them Flying
Garden Gnome turns you into a master launcher. Your goal is simple: use a catapult to fling gnomes as far as possible. The farther a gnome travels, the more flowers bloom in your garden and the higher your score climbs.
As you progress, you unlock six colorful gnomes—each with unique shapes, weights, and bounce levels. Some soar with ease, while others hit the ground harder but travel with momentum. Try them all to discover which one creates the most impressive flower trail.
